May not make a lot of practical difference, but every little bit counts, and if enough people do it, think about it, change the way they interact with the environment...maybe the world will pay attention and it can start to make a difference.

Okay, so I may have mentioned before that the company i used to work for, my mom-in-law's business, is having a lot of troubles. They've left the beautiful custom store and studio that we helped build out, and got a smaller place in a different area of town. They have a new sign, that has space for two lines of text, so want help in coming up with a business slogan. The first line will be Faux Biz Studios, and they want something that explains what they are on the second line.
Janet would like the word surface in it, since what they do is refinish all surfaces, be it walls, ceilings, floors, furniture, counters and cabinets, decorative objects...you name it.
So she has come up with: The Surface Solution Center. Which kind of sounds good, but perhaps it could be better. I would appreciate it if anyone has any input of any kind, to please share. I need to get back to her with my advice as soon as possible, preferably this week. I'll be posting what i come up with or am suggested here as we go.

| back to school? |

Okay, I've been contemplating continuing my education in one way or another. Last night I went to a massage as a career workshop at Kalamazoo Center for the Healing Arts. ( www.kcha.com ) It was very interesting, and I feel I could gain a lot by taking classes there, even if I -didn't- end up doing massage as a profession. (Though it would be a waste of money to go and not end up doing what it teaches...) I feel a call to become some flavor of healer, and this could be a good starting point. The issue I'm butting my head against right now is, of course, money. I don't have a job right now, I need to be bringing in -some- income for us to make it... and here I am wanting to take out thousands in student loans and go back to school.
So. I need to try to find a way to get loans or other financial aid that will cover not only tuition, but also living and travel expenses. I don't know if this sort of career-training school accepts any sort of government loans such as one would find on a FAFSA. They accept Sallie Mae loans...but I don't think those cover any more than tuition. So, any suggestions how to bridge the gap/convince someone to give me more loan money?
Another option, is that instead of going to KCHA, I go back to the college I started at so long ago, WMU, and see what sort of degree I can pull out of my ass with whatever credits haven't expired. I could probably get student loans to go back there... But it's a lot more stressful, with less obviously effective results.
Also, I am married now, and uncertain how that will affect my legibility for aid, etcetera. Any input on that?
If anyone has any ideas or advice on these matters, or knows someone who might, -please- let me know. I hunger for your thoughts.

Apparently, there is a danger of a highway being put in near the Hill of Tara in Ireland. I found this link asking those who oppose this highway to participate in a ritual on Samhain, to help.
The firetrucks and sirens have been screaming for the last half hour... i wonder what is going on.

This is mainly for those folks in Michigan.
My fiance and I will be moving back up that way soon, and we will need to find a place to live that will accept two cats and two dogs. I know this might be difficult, but we did it here, so i'm hoping we can find another pet-friendly realtor.
Does anyone have any experiences or information about finding pet friendly rentals up there?
We don't know yet what area of Michigan we will be moving to. Probably somewhere around Detroit (bleh) maybe Ann Arbor. We only have a couple months to find a place, since our lease is up in the second week of May. I can crash at my mom's house, however, until we do find a place.
I'm on the Aegis mailing list.. i wonder if they'd mind me asking for advice there.
Any help would be appreciated. |
